The Big Six

The ‘Big Six’ collectively command approximately 80 – 85 percent of US & Canadian box office revenue. These ‘Big Six’ are: 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Columbia Pictures, and Universal Pictures & Walt Disney Pictures. Of these, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Paramount Pictures were part of the original ‘Big Five’ who operated during the Golden Age of Hollywood (late 1920s to mid-1940s). The other three –Columbia Pictures, Universal Pictures & Walt Disney Pictures earned the market share much later.

The institution plays a vital role in what genre film is being produced and distributed by the media industry itself. Now the media industry does various jobs in making a film according to what they prefer .like for example a media company sometimes produces a specific genre based film. Like for example Disney is recently focusing a lot on superhero based movie. Likewise my genre is crime thriller therefore the media industry which plays a role in such genre is warner bros and paramount pictures.

now these industry does not does everything in terms of filmmaking but they focus on different sub groups for example the warner brothers usually only produces the films like thriller .But paramount pictures does both sometimes produces and also distributes these sorts of movies.

Paramount pictures

Origin

Paramount Pictures Corp. was established in 1914 by W.W. Hodkinson as a film distributor, offering Adolph Zukor’s Famous Players Film Company, the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company, and other producers an outlet for their movies. In 1916 Zukor and Lasky merged their companies to form the Famous Players–Lasky Corporation and acquired Paramount to distribute their films. Now as we can see that paramount mostly distributes the film and they also distribute the films based on my genre which is Drama.
